Netflix is in the process of making a big play against Hulu and cable/satellite providers, according to news reporters. Everyone’s favorite online movie peddler is reportedly in negotiations with the studios toward getting access to current season shows for its Watch Instantly streaming service. Netflix is reportedly offering $70,000 to $100,000 per episode, seemingly a pretty attractive offer.

If the deal goes through, Netflix could compete directly with Hulu, offering access to brand new shows days or hours after they broadcast on TV. And Netflix subscribers would have just one more reason to cancel their cable subscriptions and tune into their browser.

Netflix already offers TV shows, but those are mostly limited to past seasons, meaning customers have to go elsewhere for the latest episodes.

Satellite subscribers can also use services like www.DirectStarTV.com to get cheap channel access and use their On Demand services for current shows.

Not surprisingly, traditional TV networks are attempting to kill the deal.  [via Electronista]
