NBA to Athletes: Check Your Tweets
By Jared Newman
Pro basketball players may no longer be able to make their own headlines through Twitter and other social networking sites, under new rules that the NBA is set to introduce. A source tells ESPN that the new rules could result in fines for players who step over the line with their courtside comments, getting the same treatment as remarks to the mainstream media. It’s not clear whether there will be a flat-out ban on Tweeting during the game, as there is in the NFL, but teams could make stricter rules for that purpose. I hope that players can continue to vent from the sidelines or the locker room. It may not be professional, but it’s more fun. [ESPN via CrunchGear]
