Motorola To Offer Atrix-Like Docking On All High-End Smartphones
By Chris Weiss
Further blurring the line between mobile computers and phones, Motorola plans to offer docking systems like the one debuted on its 4G Atrix phone on all of its high-end smartphones by the second half of 2011. Moto CEO Sanjay Jha revealed the news to investors today.
Launched at CES in January, the Motorola Atrix is a powerful, dual-core smartphone that can be docked into Motorola’s Lapdock, essentially turning it from phone to hard drive. Motorola’s dock is basically a laptop-shaped keyboard, battery and screen that relies on the Atrix and its Webtop app to run.
The Atrix/dock package costs $500 with two-year AT&T subscription, and it’s not yet clear if other Motorola smartphone/laptop docks will follow that pricing scheme or brave out on their own. We’ll see a little later this year. [via VentureBeat]
