Microsoft, Yahoo Ad Deal in the Works: Should Google Be Afraid?

Microsoft and Yahoo Resume Ad Deal Discussions – With Microsoft’s Bing search engine chomping up 8% of the search market in June, Yahoo appeared cannibalized but Google remained steady. Despite the efforts of Microsoft and Yahoo to close this gap, Google’s dominance of the search market is ironclad. To counter the anemic ad revenue coming in to the number two and three search engines, Microsoft and Yahoo have resumed discussions to join forces on an advertising partnership. But this is more than a simple cooperative agreement– Microsoft would entirely take over Yahoo’s search advertising department. While these rumors have persisted for some time now, the question remains on how Google would respond to the concerted search advertising of Microsoft and Yahoo, who would combine for 28% of the search market (to Google’s 65%). Our question to you– should Google be worried about a partnership between Microsoft and Yahoo in the world of search?
