Microsoft “Trains” Best Buy Employees on Linux Problems

When I go into a big box electronic store and ask for some basic device or connector, I’m more often than not greeted with a hollow, dumbfounded expression and a “Let me check with my manager”. The “sales” man then disappears, never to be seen again. I find the product on my own and the employee of next month hides in the stock room where he belongs piling boxes. With this in mind, Microsoft’s purported strategy of grabbing the ears of Best Buy employees and whispering a list of Linux problems and MS’s own solutions is probably not the most astute by any means. But according to a leak from a Best Buy employee, that’s exactly what they’re doing. Some of the “training” materials Microsoft has provided to Best Buy employees are dubious and contradictory, making simultaneous claims that Linux has security issues due to lack of updates and is difficult to maintain due to the sheer number of updates. So far, Microsoft hasn’t admitted or denied its role. If Microsoft just stuck to making better products, it wouldn’t have to spend so much time discrediting the competition.
