Microsoft to Erase Existence of “Windows Mobile”
By Chris Weiss
As you well know, Microsoft announced its newest mobile OS earlier this week and decided to go in a fresh direction by replacing “Mobile” with “Phone”. Sounds about like something Microsoft would do, right?
According to new rumors, Redmond doesn’t have any plans of stopping with that change. The company will reportedly make the name change retroactive, applying it to Windows Mobile 6.5, which will take on the new name of Windows Phone Classic. Mobile 6.5 a.k.a. Phone Classic will stick around for a while, but only for business and the developing world.
So in the future, while you’re yelling at your WinMo 6.5 equipped phone and swearing that you’re going to leave it for an iPhone or Nexus One, don’t forget to call it by its rightful name. You still have some time to make the transition, though; the official switchover won’t take place until Phone 7 goes live later this year. [via MobileCrunch and Engadget]
