Microsoft Reveals Windows 7 Pricing
By Jared Newman
Yikes, a litany of details on Windows 7 pricing, and only a long paragraph in which to explain it. Let’s start with the good news: Starting tomorrow, if you buy a PC that’s running on Vista before Windows 7 sells on October 22, the upgrade is free. Existing Windows owners can pre-order an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium for $49 and Professional for $79. If you don’t pre-order, it’ll cost $119, $199 and $219 to get Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate, respectively. First-time Windows users will pay $199, $299 and $319 for a boxed version of the operating system. Leave it to Microsoft to make things complicated. [via CNet]
