Microsoft Launches Office 2010
By Chris Weiss
The new Microsoft Office is officially here, and it’s brought Web apps and a variety of updates. Microsoft makes a concerted effort to compete on Google’s turf: the cloud. Office Web Apps, as they’re called, provide cloud-based productivity that will allow multiple users to work on the same project over the Internet from both computers and mobile devices, thereby saving time and money.
In addition to Web Apps, Microsoft Office 2010 brings a variety of functional and cosmetic changes designed to address complaints, problems and suggestions with the 2007 version. Outlook features a new Conversation view that provides organization of messages into conversation groups. Microsoft puts back the ‘File’ menu in the latest version of Office, reverting back from the unpopular MS logo as File menu seen in 2007. PowerPoint gets the capability to broadcast presentations on the Internet. Other changes include a ‘Paste Preview’ feature, a new ‘Social Connector’ for Outlook and the addition of Microsoft’s note-taking feature OneNote.
