McIntosh Drops Its First Integrated Tabletop Stereo
By Chris Weiss
Generally one buys a tabletop stereo system to avoid coughing up the entire Wells Fargo for component-based audio gear. However, those buying the $7,500 McIntosh MXA60 will have to find different motivations. Since McIntosh is a staple in high-end, audiophile equipment, future owners should already have all the motivation they need.
Despite the fact that we’ll never be able to afford to stare into the mezmorizing, soft-blue eyes of the MXA60 while listening to its sweet, sweet melodies, we’re excited about the release. Sure to sound light years better than your average Best Buy package system, the MXA60 is McIntosh’s first standalone integrated audio system. It’s being launched in recognition of McIntosh’s 60th anniversary.
Based around a vacuum tube preamp, the MXA60 packs a 75-watt-per-channel amplifier, CD/SACD/MP3 player, AM/FM/RBDS tuner and two-way bass reflex speakers into a gorgeous tabletop system. Design touches include aluminum accents and backlit glass face plates on the Peak Reading Wattmeters.
If you didn’t choke on your Fresca reading the price tag, you’ll be happy to note that it’s available now. [via Crunch Gear]
