It’s no secret that Apple’s been having some problems with the white iPhone 4, but it hasn’t been clear what those problems are. Turns out the delay isn’t of the standard supply shortage delay, it’s more of a technical issue with the phone itself. According to The Street, the white casing allows light to penetrate out around the edges and back panel. From the sounds of it, it makes a halo of sorts, bringing new emphasis to the term “Jesus Phone.”

After Steve Jobs indicated that the white phone would be available by the end of July about two weeks ago, Apple announced late last week that the phone won’t make it to market until “later this year.” In that announcement, Cupertino cited the explanation of the white phone being “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.”

If this report is true, it demonstrates that Apple found it appropriate to release a phone that diminishes reception when you hold it in your left hand, but refuses to offer a phone that leaks a little light. Priorities, priorities. [via The Street]
