LG Arena LG Plans Luxury iPhone Killer for Android, Windows Mobile

It’s a fact that LG is a big player on the mobile phones market, but who would’ve expected that during the recession the South Koreans have great plans to expand. In a recent interview with Yohap, LG’s head of Mobile Ahn Seung-kwon revealed some of the company’s intentions for the coming period. Apparently they’re going to release a “Black Label” phone that should take on the iPhone, will launch their new Prada III and plans to check the waters in the ultra high end niche to see if they can compete with Vertu and the bunch.

Other than that, LG said that they’ll focus on developing handsents that will run on Windows Mobile and Google’s open-source Android OS. Pretty daring, but they seem determined to go for the second place in the global cell phone market by 2012 (currently ranked 3rd). [via BGR]

It will be interesting to see LG's spin on Android. HTC, Motorola & Sony Ericsson seem to be doing some very creative stuff with the user experience.
