amazon kindle Kindle Gets Major Battery Boost and Native PDF

The decision to go Kindle this holiday season has gotten even more obvious. Besides the fact that the B&N Nook won’t even make it in time for New Year’s, let alone Christmas, Amazon announced today that it has improved its reader by increasing battery life and adding a native PDF reader.

The battery life improvement, which came during a long-term firmware update, gets a claimed 85 percent increase–bringing total run time up to seven days, with wireless in the on position. As for the PDF reader–it will allow users to download and read PDF documents–not exactly an unfamiliar format–without having to convert them first. PDF documents can hit the Kindle via email or USB.

All that and the fact that the Kindle is actually in stock and available for the holiday should leave Amazon poised for a successful season. [via ZDNet]
