What is it about man’s fascination with personal flight that inspires him to strap a flaming projectile on his back and perform completely inadvisable feats with it? And then continue despite the limitations of the jet pack, which have been proven time and time again?

In the latest jet pack news, 50-year-old Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy was forced to bail on an attempted intercontinental jet pack voyage. He was aiming to make the 23-mile voyage from Tangier, Morocco to Tarifa, Spain. Had it been successful, the trip would have bested “Fusionman’s” own world record flight across the English Channel. But shockingly, jumping out of a plane and riding a jet pack proved to be a completely unreliable means of intercontinental transit, leaving Rossy stranded somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea. Both he and the pack were reportedly okay.

We’ll have to wait for New Year’s for his second attempt. [via Dvice]
