Apple’s iPod event doesn’t begin until 10 a.m. Pacific time, but the company has already slashed prices on its entire iPod line. Given the company’s track record for introducing new iPod models in September, the iPod price drops aren’t surprising, but the decision to do so before anything new is announced adds even more intrigue to Apple’s much-speculated-on event. The 32 GB iPod Touch got the biggest price cut, from $399 to $279, while the 16 GB and 8 GB models are now $249 and $189, respectively. The iPod nano is now $149 for 16 GB and $129 for 8 GB, and the 120 GB iPod classic is now $229. What’s not known yet is whether any of these items will be discontinued, making way for newer iPods with more storage capacity. We’ll find out soon enough. [via Ars Technica]
