Temptations to turn the iPod Touch into an iPhone may become more pronounced if the latest rumors come to fruition. Wired’s “well-connected source” says the next iPod Touch will include a camera — a rumor we’ve heard before — and, more importantly, a microphone. Throw in a Skype account, and you should be able to place calls from anywhere with Wi-Fi. That is, of course, assuming Apple won’t disable VoIP functionality should the iPod Touch get a microphone, for fear of angering cell phone providers. If they don’t, you may even be able to use a Verizon Mi-Fi portable hotspot to get full 3G functionality on the device, doing away with AT&T at last. Sure, you’ll be carrying around an extra piece of bulky tech, but that’s a small price to pay for sticking it to the man. [Wired via CrunchGear]
