News flash: The iPhone is vulnerable to attack, and even if it currently keeps viruses at bay, that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Researchers say they can use a special kind of SMS message to exploit a serious vulnerability in the iPhone, which in turn leaves it under someone else’s complete control. Calls, e-mails, data — all at the whim of a remote operator. What’s worse is that Apple reportedly was notified of the problem six weeks ago but hasn’t issued a patch. This raises an important question: Can the iPhone get a virus? There’s no proof that it can, but it’s certainly not the Fort Knox that Apple lets on. [via CNet]
