IPhone Preorder Issues: No White iPhone 4, Site Issues
By Chris Weiss
Today is the first official day that the iPhone 4 is available for preorder. As could be expected, there’s no shortage of people jumping on Apple’s website and registering their preorders. Unfortunately for many, iPhone 4′s opening day has been marred by website issues. Many would-be pre-buyers have experienced website failure smack in the middle of ordering. After getting part of the way through the process, the dreaded “Your Request Couldn’t Be Processed” takes over. Balls.
In addition to the technical glitches, many have run into another problem: the lack of a white iPhone option. When Apple introduced the iPhone 4 last week, it made clear that it would be available in both black and white, but the white iPhone 4 is MIA as far as preordering. The San Francisco Gate contacted Apple about the problem and received this not-so-helpful response: “At launch, we have the black models available for purchase and we will be adding the white models as quickly as we can.”
So if you want a white model, or want to order without any annoying technical glitches, you may be better off waiting on your iPhone 4 purchase.
Update: Gizmodo is reporting that AT&T’s entire ordering system has crashed and that people are resorting to waiting in massive lines at physical retailers. Can AT&T do anything right? [via CNET and SF Gate]
