Intel Sticking with the CULV

CULV Intel Sticking with the CULV

Just what the computer market needs: another classification of device that differs ever-so-slightly from the options already out there. At least that’s what Intel thinks. The chip manufacturer is trying to push CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) notebooks, also called “ultra-thins”, as a viable alternative to netbooks. Falling in the slit between notebooks and netbooks, ultra-thins provide advanced functionality over netbooks allowing for faster computing for applications like 3D gaming, but are slimmer and lighter than full notebooks. Earlier this week CEO Paul Otellini sung the praises of ultra-thins in an Intel earnings conference call, using such language as “an affordable notebook that has more functionality”. I suppose we’ll see how (or if) the market responds.  [via Slash Gear]
