network Teleporter HD iPhone Video Made Simple, Thanks To Mushroom

Unless you fiddle with video gear or streaming networks on a professional basis, the brand name Mushroom probably isn’t familiar, but their products make life easier for people delivering the news: they specialize in mobile uplinks and aggregating broadband traffic over multiple lines. They also have, unsurprisingly, an affection for naming their products things like “Truffle” and “Porcini”.

But their latest tool, the Teleporter, is about make getting video on your iPhone far less difficult.

The Teleporter is simplicity itself: plug it into the back of any professional-grade camera using the plugs, and put in any number of USB modems in the back. You can stream the video pretty much anywhere from there: to a studio, to an editing bay, even directly to the Internet.

There’s no price listed, but this probably costs tens of thousands. But to news organizations and everybody else, it’s worth it. People want to put video on your iPhone, but actually doing that efficiently is insanely difficult: the video has to be recorded, transcoded, and uploaded. Now, you can literally just stream it directly to an app.

This will make newsgathering a lot easier, and keep us, the smartphone-addicted, better informed. Or at least keep us informed for cheaper. Either way, we win.
