Providing a little bit more ammo in the war over e-book formats, Google’s adopting the ePub format for its public domain library. In addition to offering books in PDF format (which Amazon’s Kindle can read), Google Books will include an option to download in ePub, an open format supported by Sony’s e-readers and endorsed by book publishers including Random House and HarperCollins. The nice thing about ePub is that it’s not locked to a particular device, so if you purchase another e-reader that supports the format down the line, you can always transfer your ePub library over. It’s also lighter than a PDF, which won’t always format the the screen of your portable device. Hope you’re ready to get caught up on Shakespeare. [via Inside Google Books]
