Google’s Creepy Side
By Chris Weiss
There must be a large and growing segment of the population that thinks that Google is slowly trying to take over the world. Despite its “no-evil” mantra, the company is increasingly involved in activities that could be described as evil, suspicious at best. They’re out there taking pictures of your street, your home and you; they all but control information on the Web and they’re pretty much everywhere that you are: in your phone, on your computer, on your television and in your car. It’s getting creepy.
What’s not helping the creepiness is mouthpiece Eric Schmidt. In a CNN interview last week, Schmidt suggested that those that aren’t comfortable with Google Streetview taking pictures with their homes and businesses (is anyone really comfortable with that?) had a simple solution: move somewhere else. While Google later clarified that Eric was trying to make a point that the company only did Street View run-through once and was careful not to have any real time information on anyone, the quote just came across as arrogant and strange.
And should you think that’s the only odd, off-the-wall thing that Schmidt has said, Digital Daily’s got a whole list of quotes that should make your skin crawl.
If Google intends to be successful at taking over the world, I’d suggest making Schmidt a silent CEO. He’s really tipping their hand.
