androidapp gv Googles Also Under FCC Fire for VoIP Issues

Apple ant AT&T aren’t the only ones taking heat after the Google Voice app was banned from the iPhone’s App Store. It now appears that Google will be answering some tough questions from the Federal Communications Commission on the treatment of VoIP apps on its Android operating system, at least according to policy analysts. At issue is the way Android treats Skype, the popular program for placing calls over the Internet. While iPhone owners have access to Skype’s VoIP features — albeit only from a Wi-Fi connection, and not over 3G — Android users are stuck with Skype Lite, which eats up cellular minutes regardless of what connection you have. T-Mobile says it didn’t ask for the service to be blocked, so all eyes will be on Google as the FCC moves forward. It’s about time we got some answers. [USA Today via AppleInsider]
