Google Voice Now Available on IPhone
Jan 26, 2010 - By Chris WeissJumping right over the Apple fence and working its way onto the iPhone, Google has made Google Voice available to iPhone users. The service enables users to make cheap long distance calls, send and receive free text messages, and forward calls to other phones.
Unlike traditional iPhone apps that can be downloaded to the phone, Google Voice can only be accessed via Web browser. This is because Apple had turned down Google’s application for a Google Voice app in an episode that received a lot of attention over the summer.
Google is using the term Web app to describe the new Google Voice. It also says that it has a much richer feature set than the summer’s native app including the ability to listen to voicemails from the browser and to dial from a keypad on the screen. To streamline the Web app, users can add shortcuts so that services like calls and messaging are readily available.
The new Google Voice app is available on Palm’s webOS as well as iPhones with OS 3.0 and above. Find more information here. [via Reuters and Information Week]
