After a long, arduous journey and a Web-based workaround, Google has officially gotten its Google Voice app onto the iPhone. If you’ve been following the saga of Google Voice for the iPhone, you’ll recall that last July, Apple gave an emphatic thumbs down to the app, stating that it was too similar to the iPhone’s own features. Of course, it looked more like Apple just didn’t want its biggest rival in its phones. The government stuck its nose in, but Apple still resisted the app for over a year.

Until today. Apple eased up on restrictions beginning a couple months ago, and Google Voice is now available for the iPhone. You can download it here. Finally.

The app is only in the U.S. this year, but Google plans to get it out overseas next year. Google also has plans for an iPad and iPod touch version. [via TechCrunch and Google Voice Blog]
