Google TV Coming This Week
By Chris Weiss
According to a FinancialTimes report, the joint-venture Google TV that we’ve been hearing more and more about over the past few months will be introduced this week. Analysts have gone so far as to call the project the biggest thing to hit television since color (ummm….remote control, anyone?).
The joint venture has been said to include Google, Intel, Sony and Logitech. The companies have teamed up to leverage their talent pools and create a more comprehensive version of Web TV than what we’ve seen from other manufacturers.
The new version of television will reportedly provide new searching tools for finding content on TV and the Web and will also feature TV-based apps. Google will be spinning its Android OS into a television-based OS called Dragonpoint; Intel will supply Atom chips and Sony will be the first manufacturer to use the technology in televisions, Blu-ray players and other devices. Logitech is charged with designing a remote control.
Google will open the new platform up to app developers at its I/O conference later this week. This information reconfirms what we heard last month. [via FinancialTimes]
