Google Nexus One Phone: Rumors Now Reality

So after weeks and weeks of making our holiday season crazier than ever with unrelenting rumors, the big day has finally arrived and the Nexus One is officially official. Unveiled at an invite-only event at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View that centered around the wonderful world of Android, the Nexus One makes good on much of the speculation that surrounded it last month.

Poised to help Google keep on top of the growing world of mobile Web, the Nexus One features a 3.7-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution and 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. A trackball is included for navigation and will light up when you receive a text or email. Sensors such as a proximity and light sensor adjust the light levels based upon the position of your phone and the light around you. The phone is “thinner than a pencil and lighter than a Swiss Army knife”–or 11.5 mm thick and 130 grams, for those of us that prefer hard numbers.

Other phone specs include a 5MP camera with LED flash, dual-microphone noise cancellation and voice integration for popular apps like Google Earth, emails and Facebook posts.

As expected, Google will offer the phone directly for $529. Initially, T-Mobile will sell the subsidized version for $179, but other carriers like Verizon are expected to join in later down the line.
