Google Expands Docs to Allow Any Type of File Storage
By Chris WeissIn its latest step of cloud computing expansion, Google has opened up its online Docs service to allow for the remote storage of any types of files. Users can now upload files, store them in the service and access them from any computer with an Internet connection. The new service is also designed to aid in collaboration of group projects, whereby multiple users can easily access files from Google Docs. The storage service will be extended to all Docs users over the next few weeks.
The new service allows users to upload any file up to 250 MB. Users will get 1 GB of free storage for any files not converted to a Google Docs format and additional storage will cost $ .25 /GB per year.
Users won’t be able to work on all types of files in the cloud as the service will not include Web editors for every type of file. Instead, they can store and share unsupported files and download them to edit. For more information, check out Google Docs Blog. [via PC World]
