aardvark Google Acquires Social Networking Site Aardvark

It looks like Google is getting serious with its social networking efforts this time around. The company announced Buzz just days ago and today it acquired Aardvark, a social networking site that allows users to search for answers to their questions within their network of contacts–as if general Internet population information wasn’t sketchy enough. According to Aardvark’s website–vark.com–ask a question, Aardvark finds the “perfect person” to answer and you get your answer within minutes. The company was founded in part by two ex-Googlers.

According to Reuters, Max Ventilla, an Aardvark co-founder, confirmed that the deal had been signed. Google also issued a statement to that effect. It’s expected to go through within the next week. A price was not confirmed, but according to a TechCrunch source, it was a $50-million deal.

So, if Google rolls this technology into Buzz, you can soon be getting unreliable, dubious information from the greater Gmail community. [via Reuters and TechCrunch] [Photo: soopahgrover]
