Girl, Texting, Falls Into Manhole, Prompting Lawsuit

The headline says it all, but to explain further, 15 year-old Alexa Longueira was strolling along Victory Boulevard in Staten Island, typing out a text message, when she dropped four or five feet into an uncovered manhole. This is one of those stories that wouldn’t be as funny if she was seriously injured, but as she walked away with just a few scrapes and a newfound respect for her surroundings, we can all have a good laugh. The same can’t be said for Longueira’s parents, who are suing the city, though it’s not clear for what. True, the DEP workers probably should have put up some kind of warning sign, but would Longueira even have noticed? [MSNBC via Wired]
