Live Lookup Fox to Provide Features and Improvements to Blu ray Discs

Unfortunately, there’s no word of improving the actual movies on Blu-ray, but according to a report by SlashFilm, Fox is planning some interesting improvements to its Blu-ray discs. The first improvement is Live Lookup, which would allow users with BD-Live players to access actor information via IMDB at the touch of a button–so when you’re staring at that one extra wondering where the heck you’ve seen him before, you’ll be able to find out instantly. This feature is included on the recent Wolverine release.

Another interesting addition Fox plans to make is to provide streaming of content and Blu-ray control via a remote device like the iPhone. Instead of pulling up a menu onscreen, say for the aforementioned Live Lookup feature, you could do it on your iPhone without interrupting the movie.

Fox also plans to improve load times by loading menus during the previews, so that you don’t have to sit and wait for the menu to load. Of course, that will only work if you want to watch the previews, and even then, only for the first time that you watch the disc–but it’s better than nothing.

Finally, Fox intends to add capabilities to save Blu-ray information after you’ve ejected the disc, so that the player knows where you left off in the movie, for instance.

So in the future, when you’re watching the fourth remake of a movie from 50 years ago or the seventh in a series that really should have stopped at two, you’ll at least have some fun new features to play with. [SlashFilm via Gizmodo]
