Fastmac U Socket FastMac Offers Electrical Outlet With USB Ports

We’re getting a little worn down by all the cell phone related news, so here’s a little something that’s super-simple and useful: the FastMac U-Socket. Recognizing the great disparity between the number of devices that charge via USB and the lack of accessible ports for charging, FastMac has created a simple, new socket that offers two USB ports in addition to the ubiquitous, three-prong power outlets. So whether you’re charging a power drill or an iPod, you can leave the computer alone, skip the adapters and just plug in.

The TruePower U-Socket is designed to be wired by the handy homeowner, without the need for an electrician, though we’ll swear we warned you if it doesn’t go so well.

The U-Socket was announced for MacWorld and is currently awaiting UL approval. It’s available for pre-order now for a retail of $19.95. Shipment is expected in the second half of the year. In addition to the tech-savvy homeowner, FastMac hopes to integrate its U-Socket technology into public places such as hotels, airports and conference centers.
