Facebook Spammer Gets $711 Million Fine
By Chris Weiss
The notorious “Spam King” a.k.a Sanford Wallace was ordered to pay Facebook $711 million in damages by the U.S. District court in California overseeing the case. Unfortunately the Facebook users that were actually affected by the obnoxious onslaught of “the King’s” spam won’t see a dime. The case involved Wallace accessing Facebook users accounts without permission and using them to send out fake messages and Wall posts. Perhaps more devastating than the fine, the judge also banned Wallace and his affiliates from using Facebook in the future. Ouch.
Apparently, the spamming racket doesn’t pay so well these days, as Wallace is bankrupt. As such, Facebook doesn’t actually expect to see any money from the decision, but the judge also referred the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges. Wallace could potentially serve jailtime for his Facebook escapades. And we’re pretty sure the title of “Spam King” doesn’t bode well for any bodily orifice when in the big house. Now if they could only capture every other SOB that floods my email account and subject them to daily crevice harrassment, life would be level. Wallace has been successfully sued in the past for similar activities. [via CNN] [Photo: Mulad]
