Ericsson Spider PC Concept Uses Projected Screen and Keyboard

Ericsson has unveiled this Spider PC concept for the Taiwan Broadband show and boy does it look like a future we hope never happens. The portable computer envisioned for the world of 2020 uses a pico projector to display the screen and laser for the keyboard. As if the touchscreen keyboard isn’t irritating enough to use, don’t your fingers just ache looking at that purple and pink keyboard splattered all over the desk? While the current prototype makes one wonder why they would save space with a virtual keyboard and screen only to tie you down with giant projector hardware, the company imagines squeezing the whole package into the funky, little spider tripod which you can see shown in the video after the break.
We give credit to Ericsson for coming up with something interesting, but have to think the computer world will advance to a better place than this. Besides the inevitable discomfort of banging your fingertips onto hardwood everyday, reading, typing and working on a projected screen would have you cross-eyed and half blind within a matter of weeks. And that eerie tripod looks as though it would finish the job by poking straight through the pocket of your jeans and piercing your unmentionables. We’ll stick with a notebook, thanks. [via Gizmodo]
