Another day, another person lamenting the way we communicate now. Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols, who heads the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, says we rely too much on text messages, e-mail and social networking for communication, even putting some people at risk of suicide. The usual arguments apply: These methods for reaching people is “dehumanizing,” and they’re the basis for “transient relationships” that take away from “the ability to build interpersonal communication that’s necessary for living together and building a community.” Right. Because being able to communicate with someone at almost any time, for making plans, sharing photos or just staying in touch, is sucking the humanity out of life. I think the Archbishop is just jealous of God’s new iPhone. [via Reuters]
