DeWalt Tool Link Keeps Tabs on Tools

Call it insurance for forgetful craftsman. DeWalt and Ford have teamed up to create the Tool Link, a device that tracks whether you’re leaving the work site with all the tools you brought along. For $1,120, the user gets 50 tags that can be appended to any piece of equipment, an RFID scanner, two RFID antennaes and software for creating a database of gear. When you step in the car after a hard day at the job site, the Tool Link scans the vehicle to make sure you packed everything up, and provides a notice via Ford’s in-dash computer (sold separately). You’re looking at a $2,300 investment for the combination, but all it takes is one day of forgetting the tools for redemption. [via Gearlog]
