Dell Throws Lynnfield in Studio XPS 8000 and 9000
By Jared Newman
Still loving the desktop, eh? Consider Dell’s new Studio XPS 8000 and 9000 computers, which pack in the new Lynnfield chipset and Core processor family from Intel. Both desktops use Intel’s i5 and i7 processors, which, along with being more powerful, are way less confusing than the old “Core 2 Duo,” “Core 2 Quad” naming scheme (for the record, the new processors are quad-core). These aren’t gaming laptops; they’re general-purpose rigs that emphasize multimedia, with an application called MediaShow Espresso that speeds the transcoding process. Still, with up to 16 GB of RAM, two hard drives and a variety of graphics cards available in the XPS 8000, you could probably get your game on safely. The XPS 8000 is available today for $799, and details are shadier on the 9000, for some reason. [via Direct2Dell]
