Dell Touch Screen Laptop: The future is now! And Dell’s new Touch Screen Laptop is leading us on our way. The Dell Studio 17 may not be for minimalists, but it’s Dell’s first touchscreen laptop and offers an attractive platform to work on. Centered around a 17.3-inch multi-touch display with 1600 x 900 res, the Studio 17 features a 2.1GHz Dual Core T4300, 320GB hard disk drive, 4GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 4570 and a DVD burner. Connections-wise the laptop comes with two USBs, a USB/eSATA, HDMI, VGA, Display Port and Firewire. Audio comes courtesy of JBL + SRS Premium Sound.

Windows 7 comes loaded to assist in the multitouch experience, and the laptop also takes advantage of Dell’s own touch-enabled software. Is being able to touch a screen that important? Or is it just a fun tool? I can definitely see some artists taking advantage of it and people who are consuming information, but it feels more like a big iPhone than a device to work from.

The Studio 17 Touch starts at $800. Upgrade options include Core i7 Quad-Core processor and1GB4 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. You can order now, with shipments set to begin in December. [Dell via Gizmodo]

Would you be willing to pay $800 for a Dell touch screen laptop? Is it THAT cool?
