Dell Stock is Actually Pretty Decent

Thanks to some cost-cutting, Dell stock managed to beat analysts’ expectations even as net quarterly income fell 23 percent from a year ago. And sure, PC demand is in the gutter — 33 percent for desktops and 21 percent for laptops — but Dell believes we’re poised for a rebound in the second half of 2009. Hopes are are riding high on the release of Windows 7 in October, which Dell hopes will lead to an increase in sales. A new Microsoft Office could help the cause, but that won’t happen until next year. In the meantime, cost-cutting, will continue, as Dell “redesigns” 70 percent of its volume in an attempt to shed $4 billion in costs. [via CNN Money, image from Google Finance]
