Continental Adds WiFi In The Friendly Skies
By Chris Weiss
Flights are getting more and more expensive, and for once its not baggage fees and liquor-based sedatives driving up the cost of flying. It’s the addition of WiFi. Sure you could forego ordering in-flight WiFi and whittle that 5 hours away listening to four terrible radio stations or writing your long-forsaken novel, but mindlessly browsing the Internet is always a safer bet for making hours seem like minutes.
Continental is the latest airline to announce the addition of WiFi to its planes. Beginning in Q2 of next year, the airline will be adding GoGo Inflight Internet to its fleet of 21 Boeing 757-300 aircraft, which primarily fly domestically. The new wireless service will provide access on Wi Fi-enabled laptops and smartphones and will offer similar speeds to wireless mobile broadband, according to Continental’s press release. The service will be available once the plane hits 10,000 feet.
Ahhhh…the money. You knew we were coming back around to it. The GoGo service will cost $4.95 and up, depending upon the length of the flight. The $4.95 is certainly worth it, but the “and up” is always a fearsome little phrase. Whatever the specific cost, it’s a nice option to have on any plane ride. [PR Newswire via Engadget]
