GestureCube Conceptual Gesture Cube Eliminates the Touch From Touchscreens

The Gesture Cube is an interesting, new conceptual device that allows users to wave their hand to navigate through the virtual world. The device is based on GestIC technology, which detects your hand movements via electric field sensing, allowing you a more natural interface. The Cube concept was crafted by German design firms Lunar and Zinosign, while the underlying tech hails from IDENT.

According to the website, GestIC “enables touch-free three-dimensional gesture control on 2D screens from mobile phones, tablet PCs, picture frames and MP3 players all the way to 3D devices like Gesture Cube.” That definitely sounds interesting, but that cube looks like the bulkiest, least user friendly device that we could possibly imagine for browsing the Web, multimedia and keeping in touch with contacts–far from the “so intuitive it’s almost magical” that they were going for. I would love to see it demonstrated on a phone or tablet though.
