chumby Chumby Migrates to Other Gadgets as Software

Poor Chumby. The cutely-named counter top gadget never quite took off, despite its neat ability to deliver a wealth of information through Wi-Fi widgets. But instead of sulking, Chumby’s transforming, with the brand and underlying software being sold to other gadget makers. That means you’ll soon be able to get widgets for weather, online photos, Internet radio and social networking through devices such as Blu-ray players, TVs and even digital picture frames. Talks are underway with Sony, Samsung, Broadcom and Marvell, with the first “powered by Chumby” products likely to appear this holiday season. The Chumby device will still be available, in case you feel guilty for neglecting it. [Forbes via Wired]
