Discontent with the 1,001 other ways of viewing computer content on your television? Have we got some news for you: Cablevision has announced a new service that it’s calling PC to TV Media Relay–catchy! The service offers users the ability to display a computer screen on the television without the need to hook-up a single cable or set-top box. Simply download the software onto your computer and you’ll get a dedicated cable channel for your PC content. The service will be available to subscribers that get both cable and Internet service from Cablevision.

While Cablevision touts the new service as a one-button solution (i.e. you only have to hit your channel to begin viewing content), the truth is more complicated. Users won’t be able to control their content via the television and will need to handle that on the computer end. While HTPC remotes aren’t the most convenient thing around, they sure beat running back and forth to your desktop. Still, if you’re using a laptop and don’t feel like making a hard connection, this service could be valuable.
