B&N Nook Gets Price Break Down to $149
By Chris Weiss
Isn’t competition great? Not two months ago, we saw the first of several cheap, simple e-readers that Borders will start stocking, and now Barnes & Noble is dropping prices and introducing cheaper models of its own. The standard Nook that has been on the market since last fall will drop in price from $259 to $199. If that’s not cheap enough for ya, B&N also introduced a new Wi-Fi-only model that will come in at $149. The original Nook includes both Wi-Fi and 3G.
B&N said that the new e-reader was designed with the home reader in mind, someone who does all or most of their reading at home where Wi-Fi is available and doesn’t have the need for 3G. The Wi-Fi-only model is half an ounce lighter than the original Nook and sports a white back panel. B&N opened up pre-ordering today, and the new device should be available by week-end.
I imagine that Amazon should follow suit with a Kindle price break. [via PC World]
