trim Bit.ly May Be Tr.ims URL Shortening Savior

With the URL-shortening service Tr.im shutting down, many fear an untold mass of no-good links will litter the Internet, but it seems the market leader, Bit.ly, could save the day. Bit.ly had reportedly offered to take the  combinations of indecipherable numbers and letters off Tr.im’s hands. Clever move, as it would preserve URLs already created and give Bit.ly an even bigger chunk of the market. More importantly, it would give Bit.ly the perception of reliability, as it swoops in to save the links that another site can’t guarantee. Really though, this whole saga makes me wish there was a better way. Add hyperlinks to Twitter, perhaps? [via Mashable]
