Drunken Gadgetry: 10 Gadgets That Make Us Better Alcoholics
Aug 19, 2009 - By Jared Newman
Who says tech nerds can’t party? We’re fully prepared to hit the bars and forget about the pocket protector days, and with the help of a few handy gadgets, we’ll do it better than anyone. Here are 10 gadgets that will get you drunk faster, easier and better than those dumb jocks.
iGlassware – Never an Empty Glass

For all those bad dates where you really need another drink, the last thing you want to do is juggle conversation while trying to alert the wait staff. Mitsubishi Electric’s iGlassware contains a wireless transmitter that does the job automatically when you’re out of liquid, so no more craning your neck and waving awkardly for service.
Drink Recipe iPhone App
As the iPhone becomes the Swiss Army knife of gadgets, it seemed fitting to include the mother of all inebriation-enhancing apps. Quite a few programs will help you create the perfect drink, but “5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipies” does it for free. With all the possibilities, you’ll need that extra dough for the bar.
The Cooper Cooler Instant Beverage Chiller

Protip: When you need to quickly chill a warm beer, dunk it in a container of icy water. The Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller takes that concept a step further and rotates the can in a cold water bath, guaranteeing a cold drink in 60 seconds. It works with bottles of wine, too.
The Arkeg Drink ‘n Game

Raise your hands if you’ve played video games drunk. Wait– raise your hands if you haven’t played video games drunk. For those of us who know that there is only one way to play (see: stone cold wasted), the Arkeg might just be the ultimate toy for you. The “Arkeg” arcade comes with it’s own little kegerator with a tap on the side, plus the standard equipment you’d expect on an arcade game. Sadly, the Arkeg will run you a cool $4k, and only include 69 pre-loaded games.
iBreath – iPhone Breathalyzer Tool

There’s an app for almost everything, but none of them can tell you exactly how drunk you are. Instead, stick the iBreath into the phone’s charger slot, and you’ve got a fully-functional breathalyzer. Caveat: Don’t expect the results to hold up in court.
Electronic Wine Breather

Having dinner with some wine snobs? They’ll probably want you to decant the wine for an hour before serving — as if you actually remembered to do so. Use the Rogue O2 Electronic Wine Breather in a pinch, and it’ll gently bubble air through the beverage, bringing out its full flavor. You’ll be all the more satisfied when your guests don’t know the difference.
Cool-It USB Beverage Chiller

Some may say a USB Beverage Chiller would come in handy for workplace soda drinkers. Whatever. We think it’s just fine for throwing back a brewski on the job. Plug it into any device with USB output — including your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 — and the cooling plate will keep the drink at 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Bonus points if you’re connected to a company computer.
The Cell Phone Flask

This stealthy liquor holder isn’t a gadget in the traditional sense — it merely looks like one — but the cell phone flask is such a classic, we had to include it. Just hope no one asks why you’re still sporting a cell phone with an antenna.
The Alcohol Shot Gun

Ready, aim, DRUNK! The Alcohol Shot Gun concept allows its holders to force a shot of liquor into the grill of a friend. Load in a shot, cock the gun, pull the trigger and this little pistol ejects your liquor right down the hatch. While the Alcohol Shot Gun is still just a concept, we can only envision it making a mess– so we’ll take our shots the manly way instead. Right out of the bottle.
Asahi Robocco Beerbot

Drinking beer is hard work, so why not have a robot handle the brunt of the labor? The Asahi Beerbot keeps up to six cans cool, and uses robotic arms to pour and serve the beer. It even has a self-cleaning mode and a child lock, and it kind of looks like R2-D2, thus making most of our dreams come true.

So, fellow gadget lovers, nerds, unashamed drunks– how do you drink with tech? We’d love to hear about any tools, tricks, gadgets and gizmos that you employ when the liquor is flowing. Share your thoughts in the comments, we’d love to read ‘em!

I like the iShot Machine app because it's more than just another recipe app with a million drinks. This is entertainment with a useful recipe database. A cool interface and fun to use. Great for an icebreaker at a bar. http://www.iShotMachine.com
