New touch screen technology from Atmel sounds a bit like dream tech. While Symantec recently revealed new multi-touch technology that allows up to 10 simultaneous inputs, Atmel is going over the top with its maXTouch controllers, which allow unlimited touch inputs on screens 10 inches or larger. The result is a controller that works with fingernails, gloves and styluses, none of which usually register in traditional finger touch interfaces. Additionally, Atmel says the maXTouch technology has the lowest power needs in its class, and the first model, the mXT 224, can redraw the screen in just 4 ms. Atmel says a batch of 1 million controllers can be had for $4.75 each, but no word yet on vendors. [Atmel (video starts automatically) via Electronista]
