Asus: We’re Making Two E-Readers
By Jared Newman
It seems like everyone wants a piece of the e-book market these days, but Asus’ bid might be the most interesting yet. The Taiwanese company is readying two e-readers — one budget model and one premium model — and the cheaper of the pair will reportedly cost around £100, or $150. As Sony’s Reader Pocket Edition costs $200, and Amazon’s Kindle 2 costs $300, Asus’ price point, if true, should send shock waves through the industry. The more extravagant Asus e-reader will have two touch screens and a flexible spine, allowing users to open it like a book and turn pages by swiping a finger across the screen. The price for that product isn’t known, but Asus assures that anything in its brand “has to have the right combination of functionality and price.” We’re listening. [via the Times of London]
