Archos 5 Coming Tomorrow
By Chris Weiss
A couple weeks ago, we saw some pricing and spec leaks for the upcoming Archos 5 and today Archos has filled in the details. Archos steps its PMP game up into the realm of Internet tablets with the upgraded 5. As previously seen, the Archos runs Android for all its functions except media playback, which is taken care of by Linux. While Archos apps will be limited to about 300 at the outset, this number is expected to swell to around 1,000 by year end, and next year Archos should have a app store full of all those useful and useless apps that you love so much. The Archos 5 runs 720p resolution and supports a variety of codecs, includes integrated Wi Fi and Internet browsing and Bluetooth for accessing a 3G connection via your mobile phone. Other optional features include video recording through separate DVR station and GPS. The new 5 hits the market tomorrow in flash-based 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models and hard drive models with 160GB or 500GB, running between $250 and $440. [via CNET]
