Apple Says No to Sex Offender Locator App

Finding and avoiding sex offenders in your area could be a little tougher now that Apple has blocked the Sex Offender Locator app from the iPhone’s app store. As the name suggests, the app helps parents and other concerned individuals find out where nearby offenders are living, using an address or the phone’s current location. At issue could be California state laws, which prohibit the sale of criminal information for a profit. But as commenters at PC World point out, you’re not so much paying for the information — which is already available online, of course — but the method of delivery. But whatever, blaming Apple for its nonsensical app approval process is too fun to pass up, so I am very angry right now. [via PC World]
