Apple Looking at Restructuring ITunes After Lala Deal
Dec 10, 2009 - By Chris Weiss
Well, you knew Apple had something big up its sleeve when it purchased Lala and now the tech world is abuzz with just what that is. Reports stemming from a Wall Street Journal article are indicating that the $85 million deal will be used to help Apple to go cloud, letting customers experience iTunes music through streaming rather than solely by downloading it onto their computers. This is in line with what many were expecting when news of the deal broke earlier this week.
In addition to allowing greater access to iTunes music for consumers, the restructuring of iTunes into a browser-based service will help Apple to integrate iTunes into Web searches, social media and other key Web platforms.
While details remain thin and it’s still too early to know for sure, expect to see big changes coming to iTunes in 2010. Apple has had no official comment on its Lala plans, and has stuck to a simple, nonchalant statement that it buys companies “from time to time”–doesn’t tell us anything about the future, but sure lends to the image of an evil, gargantuan corporation taking over the market one little piece at a time.
